More about Coach Herting

Bishop Verot Head Boys Basketball Coach Matt Herting

Coach Herting has just finished his 19th year as the head boys basketball coach at Bishop Verot.  When Coach Herting took over at Verot, Herting and his staff took over a program that had finished 7-24 and 7-25 the previous two season.  Since taking over the helm, Herting and his staff have led the Vikings to 9 straight district titles and 14 play-off victories in the past seven seasons.  Before Herting and his staff arrived, no Verot team had ever won a play-off game.  Herting led the Vikings to their first ever Final Four in 2009.  Verot was only the 5th team in Lee County history to make the trip to Lakeland.  Coach Herting has been named Ft. Myers News-Press Coach of the Year, Southwest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year,  Hugh Thimler Lee County Coach of the Year, FACA District Coach of the Year, and has served as the head coach in both the SFABC Southwest Florida All-Star Game and the FACA Florida State All-Star Game.  Coach Herting is the active president of both the Southwest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches and the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches.
